SCHOOLNET  WORKSHOP HELD  IN "PLANET DISCOVERY" MUSEUM IN BEIRUT DOWNTOWN .

Schoolnet Project Director, Internet projects coordinator - Ministry of Education and Higher Education , Mr Abdou Yammine,  invited all teachers  of  SchoolNet Lebanon to a pioneering workshop in Planet Discovery Museum in Old Town - Beirut on December 20th. The objective is to prepare them for working online through an "Online project" with schools from Lebanon and other areas of the world as a part of  "IOT Project" called "Impact of ICT in our daily life"  launched by Schoolnet Lebanon in collaboration with iEARN, Intel and Microsoft.

The workshop that was held on December 20th , 2003 from 8:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. ) which was held at “Planet Discovery” Museum downtown Beirut went extremely well – indeed much better than I expected.  22 public schools participated in the workshop -  and we exerted a lot of effort to explain exactly what the "Impact of ICT in our life" project. The project was explained by the teachers themselves: Daad Maamari explained the global objectives of the project, Widad Elias explained the relation between the project ,and the educational curriculum and Patricia Khoury trained the teachers to use Power point presentation.  The atmosphere during the workshop was very serious and the participants were extremely interested.  I expect all the participants to participate in the project if there are no obstacles by the schools, especially that a big number of these schools will be busy with exams during the second half of February.  At the end , Eliane Metni iEARN coordinator in Lebanon has clarifying the collaboration between iEARN US and Schoolnet Lebanon and trained the teachers to use iEARN forum.

Finally Eliane Metni,  iEARN  Lebanon Coordinator,  talk about the joint projects between the three above organizations.  She also talked about the “Youthcan Med” Project which had already started by a workshop last year and is in the process of implementation this year. 

At the end of the workshop, the participants agreed to meet on line using "SchoolNet Forum" to discuss the phases they reached in implementing their project.  A list of the participants with their e-mails, telephone numbers, and their respective schools was prepared during the workshop and distributed around. 

During the course of the first week of January 2004, teachers will discuss with their students their choice of subjects/issues and will send the results of these discussions to all the participants using a group e-mail that was created during the workshop.
