Project's Name: Fire threatens our trees. Let's restore The Green Lebanon Project's Coordination: Ministry of Education, Directorate General for Education in collaboration "Educational Association for IT development - EAID" Time line : October 2011 – May 2012 Project's Overview
Project's Summary: Prepare a study on some of Lebanon’s trees, their history and the declining Lebanese forestry resources; followed by a planting campaign of afforested areas by secondary classes’ students, in cooperation between the schools and the surrounding civil communities. In addition to that, undertake a scientific research on the tree types to be cultivated, fully displayed in a PowerPoint presentation, where all project phases should be documented through films, documents and students’ visions of firefighting and means to restore The Green Lebanon. Problematic: Increasing of the number of fires in forests during recent years, which threatened forestation in Lebanon and means to stop this erosion. Suggested Solutions: To focus on solutions that students envision in order to create a green environment compatible with the ecological, touristic and environmental needs of Lebanon. Project Participants: Private and Public Secondary students between the age of 12 and 18 Project implementation schedule: The project will be launched in mid-October 2011 and will run till April 2012. Students’ work will be posted on the Internet on an ongoing basis through the “Schoolnet” forum, which provides for these students a space for direct dialogue over the network. The projects will be evaluated early April 2012. The distinguished projects will be presented at a ceremony held under the auspices of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, in the Auditorium located in the twelfth floor of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education building. Expected results: Planted area, essays, articles, reports, flyers, publications, pictures, art, and activities targeted towards Change and the Use of social networking sites. All of these will be posted on the “Schoolnet” website: www.schoolnet.edu.lb.
