  • Talented from Lebanon! Who is protecting their talents?

    Introduction

    Intellectual property surrounds us in nearly everything we do. At home, at school, at work, at rest and at play; no matter what we do, we are surrounded by the fruits of human creativity and invention.

    This project seeks to increase public understanding of what IP really means, and to demonstrate how the IP system fosters not only music, arts and entertainments, but also all the products and technological innovations that help to shape our world.

    Challenge

    Although Lebanon is renowned for its innovators and creators: artists, architects, scientists, fashion designers, and the list goes on. Intellectual Property is still considered an alien concept or worse a system that seeks to protect foreign interests. Surveys and studies have shown otherwise, example: the economic contribution of the copyright industries is estimated at 4.76 percent of the GDP. More than 50,000 employees benefit from these industries.

    Objectives

    The aims of this project are:

    ·         to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact daily life;

    ·         to increase understanding of how protecting IP rights helps promote creativity and innovation;

    ·         to celebrate creativity, and the contributions made by creators and innovators – particularly Lebanese - to the development of societies across the globe; and to encourage respect for the IP rights of others.
