top Full description of project:
Through this project students will develop critical and reflective thinking on
the use of ICT in their daily lives. Students are invited to answer questions
such as: How and where do they use ICT? How did ICT evolve and at what pace?
What technologies were used 10 years ago as compared to the current ones? How do
they see ICT in the next couple of years? How did the use of ICT change their
life in terms of time allocation and their work load management and/or their
social life. What if there were no ICT, for example, what would our world be
like? How would that impact the environment, education, socio-economic
relationships etc? They can also ask their own questions of interest and share
them with the group. Students are welcome to express their views in any creative
media. Students are welcome to Display
their views in Schoolnet forum.
School level of project participants:
Secondary one through secondary three levels are invited to participate in this
forum.
Timetable/Schedule for the project:
The project will be launched on December 6, 2004 and will continue until May 21,
2005. Students work will be published online on an ongoing basis. The
project will be evaluated in May 2005 and hopefully re-launched during the next
academic year.
Possible project/classroom activities:
Students can brainstorm, discuss, research and write essays about the impact of
technology in their daily lives. Creative writing is also welcome and can be
presented in any form. Students can post their views in the forum in the form

To Success
|
To achieve a Pass, the student must show that s/he can: |
To achieve a Merit, the student must show also that s/he can: |
To achieve a Distinction, the student must also show that s/he can: |
|
Describe uses of ICT that could impact particularly on his own life or
that of the community in his area. |
Independently find a range of sources of information to research
her/his report and properly document / reference this sources. |
Describe uses of ICT that would impact on the wider society and how it
might affect them. (identifying additional skills that might be needed by
changes in ICT use) |
|
With guidance, identify and use appropriate sources of information to
complete his report. |
Plan the content and presentation of the report and present it in a
structured way |
Evaluate sources of information that he used to complete the report and
prioritize them as per their relevance to the subject matter. |
|
Show analytical skills in this exercise, reaching results based on
factual evidence. |
Exhibit logical and scientific reasoning in the presentation and
content of the report. |
Show capacity to generate an ICT -usage model from this exercise that
could be replicated for other groups of people. |
topTo accomplish a complete project, students
must be able to:
·
Define their leading question.
·
Demonstrate its correlation to her/his own
life/community.
·
Find appropriate resources.
·
Conduct a research.
·
Analyze/cross-compare and/or synthesize.
·
Compile the data
·
Document and reference their work.
·
Present their work in a report form.
·
Prepare a Power Point presentation.
top Guidance for teachers.
-
Students have to investigate the impact that ICT has had on society and
predict how they see it progressing over the coming years.
-
Students may gain an appreciation of how ICT is being used in today's society
by being exposed to real life examples.
-
Students will undertake research into where ICT is currently being used and
explain their finding. They will then be able to predict where the future lies
for ICT in society. They have to think about future developments.
-
Students should explore areas with which they are familiar, so that they may
see first hand, the way in which ICT has benefited or disadvantaged society.
-
Students may be allowed to carry out independent research. (visiting places
where they can see how ICT is being used).
-
Students must cover to a basic level the development of the Internet in his
region and visit centers that can be considered as places can be considered as
suitability of materials available on the Internet.
-
Students may dream up an idea for ICT usage in society to ease the lives of
human beings. Examples in the sectors of health, social services,
government services are but some to consider.
top Guidance on Evaluation.
-
Students must identify how the use of ICT impacts on their own life or that of
their family, friends and peers. This should be related to the area researched
by the students, rather than being a broad summation of the effects of ICT in
general.
-
Students must use appropriate sources of information when researching material
for their report. It is recognized that students at this level may need
guidance in identifying and selecting suitable sources of information.
-
Students must briefly describe what improvements have resulted from ICT use in
the area that they have studied, and how ICT has facilitated this improvement.
-
Based on their research of their chosen subject, students should identify
possible future use of ICT either within the usages area that they focused on
or in other applicable areas.
-
Students must independently identify and select appropriate sources of
information. This does not preclude a student checking the accuracy or
reliability of an information source with their teacher. Collection of
statistical or numeric information to quantify the impact of ICT on a
particular area of focus is highly encouraged.
-
Students must plan the content and presentation of their reports so that their
final report is well structured, properly referenced and easy to follow.
Students may want to use a proforma or produce outline plans of the content
and structure of their work to help them achieve this criterion.
-
Students must recognize both the advantages and disadvantages of the use of
ICT in the chosen area of study.
-
Students must identify how the use of ICT impacts on wider society that is
outside of their own lives or that of their family, friends and peer.
-
Students must evaluate how useful each source of information was to their
research. They may want to include comments on the reliability, accuracy or
currency of the information available, and other sources of information
-
Students must make suggestions as to how their research or final report could
be improved. This may relate to content or presentation, but should not be
trivial, for example "reprint in color"
-
Students must work to make the final presentation well structured, fairly
encompassing in terms of content and strategic in terms of impact findings.
-
If working in groups, each student must work on part of the research project
and profess an investigated area so as to contribute equally to the group in
both the report and presentation formations.
